Top 30 point guard Ayo Dosunmu continues to show why he is one of the most highly sought after players in the class. He proved to be one of the top scorers at NBPA Top 100 Camp, and colleges continue to pick up the interest in him.
One school that has seemingly been at or near the top of the list for Dosunmu for a while is Xavier, and the Musketeers remain in a strong spot because of the relationship they've built with him.
"My relationship with Coach (Luke) Murray and Coach (Chris) Mack is tremendous," said Dosunmu. "I really like their campus and what they are doing there. I just like how they go about things."
Recently Kansas offered and that was big for Dosunmu. New Kansas transfer Charlie Moore and Dosunmu are extremely close friends and former high school teammates.
When asked how that will impact him, Dosunmu said, "My relationship with Charlie is great. I have known him for 10 years. Our relationship off the court is great. I played one year with him at Morgan Park, so we are going to have to talk about how we want to do things for sure."
Another school firmly in the mix with Dosunmu is Illinois. The Illini have been after Dosunmu hard since Brad Underwood took over the job in Champaign, and he continues to talk highly of Illinois.
"Coach Underwood and Coach (Chin) Coleman are pitching to me that it is my in-state school," said Dosunmu. "They are saying why would I go out of state when I could go there and turn the program around and help them win."
Recently NC State picked up a 2018 point guard commitment in Jamie Lewis, and while Dosunmu has repeatedly stated he doesn't care about depth charts, he has noticed a bit of a change with the Wolfpack.
"They still talk to me and I know it is a business," said Dosunmu. "At the end of the day I know they picked up a guard. They still talk to me, but not as much, but that is something I would expect."
For now Dosunmu is in no hurry to make a commitment, but he knows he wants to get a few more visits done in the near future.
"After this camp I am going to make some visits to schools," he stated. "I know I want to get to Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Kansas, and I want to get back out to Xavier and Northwestern."
When it does come time for a choice to be made, Dosunmu knows what he will be looking for in a school.
"At the end of the day I am going to go to the school that is the best for me," noted Dosunmu. "I just want to go somewhere that I feel I can play right away and where I fit in the best."
