The engine behind the Iowa Barnstormers in the adidas Gauntlet is A.J. Green. A four-star floor general, Green can really shoot the basketball and also has a solid feel for the game. Like he was during the spring for the Barnstormers, Green has been good at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, and is beginning to take a deep dive into his recruitment.
"I thought the spring went pretty well," noted Green. "We competed at a high level on the adidas Gauntlet. I feel I kept getting better and did everything I had to do."
Green's father Kyle, an assistant at Northern Iowa, is helping A.J. through the process, a process that remains open.
"I’m still looking at schools," said Green. "My dad is helping me a bunch with it, and everything is going well right now."
The most recent visit for Green was to Iowa State, and Green came away impressed with Steve Prohm and his staff in Ames.
"I liked the visit a lot," said Green. "Coach Prohm and the rest of the staff were great. I really liked what they had to say about their style of play and how I would fit in there. I liked how he said he gives his guards a lot of freedom."
Another school that Green is very familiar with is Minnesota. He has roots in the state, and a longstanding relationship with Minnesota assistant Ben Johnson.
"I’m still talking to Coach Johnson," noted Green of Minnesota. "I have family up there and it is pretty close to home which I like. I just have a good relationship with them."
Another school that has put in a lot of work is Nebraska. The Cornhuskers have made Green a major priority, and continue to be very active in the recruitment.
About Nebraska, Green said, "They were one of the first schools that reached out to me so that means something. I like Coach (Tim) Miles and Coach (Michael) Lewis, and they are good guys down there who I have a good relationship with."
Clearly the school that Green is most familiar with is Northern Iowa. He has been around the program for years, and continues to be extremely interested in joining his dad.
"It is a unique situation because my dad is the coach," explained Green. "I have a great relationship with the coaches and players, and I have been watching them my whole life, and I just have a great relationship with the entire program."
Currently Green says no other visits are set up, and he has no timeline for coming to a decision.
