Q&A with four-star guard Eric Ayala

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Four-star guard Eric Ayala is debating a move into the 2017 class. Where does he stand with that decision? Who is recruiting for 2017? Ayala breaks it down.

Evan Daniels: Are you going to stay 2018 at this point?
Eric Ayala: I will probably make a decision towards the end of July. I’m just going to play through July, just want to see where everything is at right now.

What schools want you for 2017?
Syracuse is kind of up in the air right now, they just took Geno Thorpe so I don’t think they have any more spots right now. OregonOhio StateMaryland, it’s not too many but those schools are willing to take me in 2017.

What are the advantages/disadvantages to reclassifying to 2017?
I’m still trying to figure out what the advantage is for me going in 2018. I feel like if I am just trying to develop then I will get even better at college but I haven’t made my decision yet. As far as 2018, it’s a different class that I will be competing with as far as like future goals and stuff like that so I’m not leaning toward one way right now, just trying to play out the summer and see.

Any schools you want to visit?
I just visited USC unofficially, I’m going to visit Oregon, get up to Syracuse again, Maryland is right down the street, usually whenever we go to tournaments I usually visit the schools as we’re out there and stuff like that.

With the timeline of this it could be like a “bang-bang” where you take a visit and reclassify and commit…
Yeah for 2017 that’s how it’s going right now. It will be a fast process if I were to go to 2017.

Let’s say you move to 2018, will you just hit the reset button from a recruiting standpoint?
Not really, but as far as 2018, a lot of the schools I have been dealing with are recruiting me for 2017 and 2018 but some schools would rather take me in 2017 than in 2018. All the schools are kind of in the same boat.

Are there any schools recruiting you just for 2018?
Arizona is recruiting me for 2018. Almost everybody except for the 3 schools I said for 2017.
