Poney Express Delivers Hopkins To SMU
It took a while, but this one has come full circle. Two weeks ago, Bryan Hopkins gave Mike Dement a verbal commitment to play in Dallas for the Ponies. Shortly thereafter, Hopkins decided to rescind his commitment.
However, according to our sources, Southern Methodist is now the proud owner, once and for all, of a commitment from Hopkins. From the time that he rescinded his commitment to SMU, our sources also indicated that he gave Texas a behind closed doors commitment to play for the Longhorns. Obviously, that made the situation very interesting.
However, Dement, who had been recruiting Hopkins the longest of any school involved, did not give up and over the weekend, the Ponies once again were able to secure a commitment from Hopkins. He is the highest-rated player to commit to SMU since Jeryl Sasser who is now in the NBA.
SMU is still recruiting PF Aliou Kane, Hopkins' AAU teammate. Kane has pledged to take official visits to SMU, Minnesota, North Carolina, Iowa and Wake Forest.
