Ram Tough: Shuler To VCU

Jeff Capel had three recruits in last weekend at VCU. When it was over, we presume the Rams got the man they wanted and certainly had a quality commitment in hand from Jamal Shuler.

Jacksonville High versatile guard Jamal Shuler is headed to Virginia Commonwealth to play for Jeff Capel. Shuler reached his decision shortly after visiting the Rams last week.

Apparently, he had it down to Virginia Tech, UNC-Wilmington and the Rams.

"Me and my parents just fell in love with the campus on the education side and on the basketball side," Shuler.

Don't think for a second that Shuler wasn't attracted to the school because of the former Duke standout at the helm. He remembers him well.

The Rams pitch was a little unique and that attracted Shuler. "They just put the education side in front of basketball. Everybody else came with how they can help me be a better player. I just wanted to go to a school that could help me with my degree and further my basketball career as well."

Expect Shuler, a very good mid-major recruit, to help out in early in a variety of positions. "Hopefully I'll come in there and contribute. I want to learn the system and adapt to college life before I do anything. I want to help them to a CAA championship, get to the tournament and have a solid career."
