Gaines Headed South

Archbishop Molloy guard Sundiata Gaines is heading south. The member of the New York Gauchos is headed to the SEC.

Sundiata Gaines, part of the highly-successful trio of guards that ran the show for the New York Gauchos, is off the board.

On Wednesday night, sources confirmed with that Gaines was indeed headed to Georgia. He's the second player to commit to Georgia this month as Top 100 guard Channing Toney picked UGA two weeks ago.

Gaines represents the kind of guy that the new Georgia staff is going to target. Coach Dennis Felton is revamping the talent pool and he's plucking guys with good genes. Toney is the son of a former NBA standout. Gaines, he's a winner.

A scoring guard in a point guard's body, Gaines finds a way. He's one of those intangibles guys. Count him out and he's finding a way to beat you. Alongside Russell Robinson and Ronald Ramon, Gaines was a major reason why the Gauchos captured three major AAU titles last season, including the Nike Peach Jam.

A good shooter and a guy who can get to the basket, Gaines has made a name for himself in the Big Apple as a guy who can turn the numbers on a scoreboard.

The Bulldogs now have two scholarships remaining for the Class of 2004. One of the grants is ticketed for a big man and the other might be used on a point guard.
