Minnesota Lands First Commitment
The Golden Gophers joined the growing ranks of schools with committed prospects. On Wednesday, Chicago Providence-St. Mel forward Stanley Gaines committed to the Gophers, according to Jeff Shelman of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
"The visit really did it," Gaines said. "I was comfortable with the players, the coaching staff, the whole family, and I liked the city."
The 6-7 Gaines will probably assume a number of roles for Minnesota. He's athletic and will likely swing between the two forward roles as he's a willing rebounder. Last year at Providence Day, Gaines averaged 17 points and 8 rebounds a game.
Gaines' reputation started early in his high school career. He built a huge following a few years ago during the Spiece Run ‘n Slam. He's played the past few seasons for Mac Irvin's Illinois Fire alongside such standouts as Sean Dockery, Imari Sawyer, Luther Head and Reo Logan.
