Memphis Picks Up Dorsey

Baltimore native Richard Dorsey is heading to Memphis. The Laurinburg Prep power forward picked the Tigers after visiting the school last weekend.

Richard Dorsey, a prep school standout at Laurinburg Prep, committed to John Calipari's Memphis Tigers this week. The news first broke in the Commercial Appeal.

"It's a done deal," said Laurinburg assistant Jay Couch. "They've been in there since the summer, since ABCD."

Miami, Southern Cal, Auburn and Cincinnati were also in the mix for the 2002 All-Met performer. A Baltimore native, Dorsey won a state title at Dunbar in 2002 and then spent a year at Mount Zion before coming to Laurinburg.

Known for his chiseled physique and powerful dunking ability, he's a specimen. He runs the floor aggressively, and like we said looks to hammer it down whenever he can.

He should give Memphis' frontline a spark. "I think they need a player like him," Laurinburg head coach Chris Chaney said. "They see his potential and they just like the way he conducted himself and he has goals in mind. The goals he has in mind I think coach Calipari can help him succeed in those goals."
