ACC or Big East For McClain

Penn Hills senior forward Akida McClain, one of the big risers from the Nike Camp, is down to a pair of schools. It looks like he'll either play in the ACC or Big East and we'll know soon.

There's no doubt that the month of July was good to Penn Hills senior Akida McClain. After a standout effort at the Nike Camp, McClain watched as interest in his abilities rose. Now, he's got his list trimmed to a pair of programs.

"Basically, it's just been narrowed down to Virginia and Boston College. I took the Boston College two weeks ago and Friday I'm going down to Virginia."

The Eagles are very much in the running after a good campus visit. "I had a great time. When I first got there, the players were in the weight room so I met all of them. The football team played Miami that weekend so there was a lot going on.

"They're fast paced, they run with a lot of press and running and jumping. They have a good physical therapy program and also I might want to get into sports management."

McClain admits that he knows slightly less about Virginia so there's work to be done on the visit. "I'm interested in them too. They have the same type of style of play and coach Gillen came into my household. I don't know a lot about them and that's why I'm going on my visit."

Last season, McClain averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds a game. A decision will likely come very shortly after the Virginia visit.
