Jones Stays Out West

Marcel Jones had to be impressed with the staff's dedication. The Pac-10 school that landed him was at every one of his summer games. On Tuesday, he let it be known that he appreciated the admiration.

Jay John stalked Marcel Jones. He never let him out of his sight. The Oregon State head coach or one of his assistants watched every single one of Jones' summer league games in July. The Beavers didn't miss his action and in the end, didn't miss out on him.

On Tuesday, Jones committed to Oregon State.

"They did a great job," Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight said. "The head coach was out all the time to see him play. Jay John was there all the time. I think Jay learned that from Lute [Olson]." John is a former Arizona assistant.

Last season, Jones averaged 11 points but played on a team with numerous Division I signees. He's sprouted up to 6-7 and, according to McKnight, is really stroking 3s. The coach has sent over 70 players to Division I basketball in his time at the helm of the program, including Miles Simon and Cedric Bozeman to name a few.

"I think [Marcel] has a chance to come in there and play real soon," McKnight said. "He's moved to the 2 [guard]. He'll naturally score more points."
