Sean Williams Heads East

Mansfield High (Texas) big man Sean Williams had a chance to go to Texas, Oklahoma and maybe even Arizona. Instead, he chose to play in the Big East.

Sean Williams is a senior who has yet to play in a varsity high school game at Mansfield High, but the 6-9, 220-pound Texan has enough potential to commit to Boston College on Tuesday night.

Williams, who turns 17 next month, committed to the Eagles despite heavy interest from the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona and DePaul.

``I just felt it was best situation for me player developement-wise," Williams said. ``I really like the coaching staff, the enviroment and the academics."

``It was about the players who would be there and who I thought I would gel better with," he added. "I want a degree. I want to goes as far as I can.

Williams, who has a 3.0 GPA and a 1220 on the SAT, plans to major in mechanical engineering.

This was a big-time get for the Eagles, who got in as early as just about anyone on Williams. He joins Penn Hills (Pa.) 6-8 forward Akida McLain, who BC picked up last week.
