Cooke Set To Decide

It's decision day for Nansemond River standout Marquie Cooke. The guard is set to announce Wednesday afternoon but we've got some insight into where he'll end up.

At 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Nansemond River High, standout point guard Marquie Cooke will make his college decision public. According to sources, Cooke will select Virginia Tech over Clemson.

Ranked No. 84 in our pre-season rankings, Cooke is a significant addition for the Hokies. He's been a standout with the Boo Williams Summer League program the past two seasons. He's a strong guard who gets to the rim and makes plays.

Cooke's commitment would be huge for the Hokies who will join the ACC next season. In fact, some are speculating that this is one of the best high school players the Hokies have signed in recent memory, certainly in the last five years.

Seth Greenberg's bunch had three scholarships earmarked for the class and Cooke would be the first. Among those mentioned to be in the mix for the final grants are guys like Roy Bright and Emanuel Willis. Justin Holt, a junior college forward from Takoma CC is actually going to take his official visit to Blacksburg this weekend.

Cooke's recruitment would mean that the Hokies landed a big time prospect from the famed Boo Williams AAU program and also gives the program some regional swagger in an area known for outstanding athletes.

We'll have more on this situation following the press conference. Cooke averaged 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists as he earned all-state honors for coach Franklin Chatman last season.
