Boggan Starting To Hear From Schools

Florida freshman Mario Boggan has his release from the Gators and he's looking around at a few schools. Here's what we know.

Mario Boggan, a 6-6, 300 pounder who hails from Durham, asked for and was granted his release from the Florida Gators this month. Boggan averaged 2.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 16 games last season at Florida.

When Boggan first committed he never visited Florida but that wasn't the problem. His size and skill package wasn't the best match for Billy Donovan's fast-paced system. "I think he's a little too heavy for Florida's system," Boggan's AAU coach, Steve Shelton said. "He wants to visit a few schools and kind of make a decision from that."

Boggan has his release from the Gators and is able to talk with other programs.

Clemson, Virginia Tech, St. Bonaventure and South Alabama would like him to visit. USA coach John Pelphrey actually recruited Boggan to Florida before becoming USA's head coach.

"The biggest thing that he's run into so far is that a lot of people are interested but he's not sure who has a scholarship for him right now. There are a dozen schools that would love to have him but he doesn't want to pay his own way."

Boggan finished up as our No. 39 prospect in 2002 and had the reputation as a terrific finisher in the paint and always shot a high percentage in high school.
