Coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance, IUPUI has a pair of commitments this year. George Hill, a shooting guard out of Broad Ripple High was the first to commit to the Jags. Most recently they landed Craig Swoope of Carmel High. Swoope was injured and therefore wasn't present on the summer circuit.
Rell Porter, a starter with Wes Grandstaff's Team Texas unit, is headed to Stephen F. Austin. The Pittsburg (TX) High senior will play power forward for the Lumberjacks.
Paul Westphal's squad is the latest college program to head north. Oliver Prince, a 6-5 small forward from Jean Vanier in Toronto, is headed to the West Coast. Prince is a great story because he was seriously injured when he was struck by a car in 2001. An intense two-year rehabilitation has allowed him to play hoops again. Tough kid and a great story. To be continued at Pepperdine!
Ryan Gargaro, a big man out of Minnesota, is headed to New Hampshire. Gargaro ran with the Minnesota Magic which had Spencer Tollackson and Ryan Amoroso on the frontline. He was recruited by Boston U., Marshall and Wagner. He averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds last year.
Gargaro joins Flint Hill senior Mike Christensen. The 6-6 Christensen scored 18 points a game last year and was a first-team Mid-Atlantic Conference selection.
Combo guard Brandon Burney of Montgomery Central High is the lone Austin Peay commitment of the year. He's 6-1.
