"He committed to Tennessee yesterday," Herndon's father Gary said. "We had a fantastic visit this past weekend and he decided he didn't need to look any further. We are excited about the future of UT and BuzzBall."

Herndon got a real taste of the national spotlight at the 2001 AAU National Championship in Orlando. He played for the Tennessee Thunder and was evaluated by numerous colleges at the tournament. He had been looking at Vanderbilt, Alabama and Penn State. Wake Forest was interested, but handed its final scholarship to Georgia big man Chris Ellis.

Herndon is UT's third commitment of the year as he joins Las Vegas point guard CJ Watson and juco small forward Justin Albrecht in Peterson's first class at Tennessee.
