The Archbishop Spalding (Md.) 6-8 senior forward returned yesterday from a trip to Maryland for Midnight Madness and will likely make a decision within the next week on whether he will commit to the Terps or UConn.
``It was fun," Gay said of the visit. "It's crazy."
Gay made the short trek to College Park on Friday after school and hung out with the current Terps players for a while before taking a seat prior to the festivities.
``They started chanting my name," he said. "It was pretty cool being that it's coming from my hometown."
Despite the fact that Gay spoke highly of his visit to Maryland, that doesn't mean that he's a lock to commit to the Terps. In fact, this one may be too close to call.
``It compared just as good as my UConn visit," he said. "It's a visit. I know it's not going to be like that when I go to school."
``It's really confusing right now," he added. "It's going to take a little time because they're two good schools. I'm going to talk to my family and coaches about the decision. I might even have to take another unofficial visit. You never know."
But the odds are that Gay is done with trips – and that he'll get this thing over with in the next week or so.
``It's hard, but it's something I have to do," he said. "I don't really have a timetable, but I want to get it done as soon as possible. It's really tough for me to decide because they are such good schools – and there really aren't too many reasons not to like them. I would be happy at either place."
