2005 Focus: David Palmer

Antioch (TN) High is home to David Palmer, a promising power forward and member of the Class of 2005. Like many of his cohorts, Palmer's been on a few campuses and is formulating his college list.

David Palmer, a 6-8 power forward, is ranked among our Top 25 prospects in the Class of 2005. In fact, he's No. 25.

Last month, during the evaluation period, Palmer saw three major college head coaches stop by his school to check him out. "I had a lot of people show up," he said. "Coach Gottfried (Alabama) came, so did coach Peterson (Tennessee) and coach Weber (Illinois).

Having three head coaches come in to see you prior to your junior year is no small feat. In fact, Palmer has already been up to Tennessee and Illinois unofficially. In fact, Palmer visited Illinois the weekend of September 27 with Tyler Hansbrough (No. 3, TheInsiders.com). Currently, Illinois is Palmer's leader and is heavily recruiting Hansbrough.

"It was really fun. I got to play with Dee, Luther and Deron and all those guys. They made me and Tyler feel at home. We had fun up there."

Apparently, the pair forged a relationship when they both attended the Nike Hoop Jamboree. Palmer said they are real close and wouldn't mind playing with each other next summer on the AAU circuit.

In addition to Illinois and Tennessee, Kansas and Notre Dame appear on his list. However, at this time, we were only able to confirm an offer from Illinois.

Last season, Palmer averaged 14 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks but fell short of his ultimate goal. "I want to win the state championship. We were real close last year. We were about four games away. … I need to take over this year. Last year it wasn't coming to me. I have to be more assertive, more aggressive."
