Mike Davis Done Early

Mike Davis didn't play a minute of varsity basketball as a sophomore last season, but after a strong summer with the Gauchos, the 6-9, 210-pound junior wasted little time in picking a college.

First it was Ron Ramon. Then Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon got an early start on the junior class with a commitment from Xaverian (N.Y.) 6-8, 210-pound junior forward Mike Davis.

``He gave his verbal yesterday," Gauchos coach Gary Sims said. "It's done."

``This is where he wanted to go," added Sims. "Pittsburgh got in early and he watched tape and saw how much the guards find the big men."

Davis also considered Iowa State and Indiana.

Davis did not even play varsity basketball last season, but more than held his own this past summer while starting for the Gauchos under-17 squad.

Davis is a tireless worker on the inside who can block shots, rebound and score in the paint. He still needs to work on putting the ball on the floor.
