Headed To UNC For Midnight Madness
It's a scene that is going to become more commonplace as the evolution of the recruiting calendar continues its evolution. Westchester forward Trevor Ariza, a 6-7 all-star from the 2001 adidas ABCD Camp, is heading to North Carolina to spend Midnight Madness with the Tar Heels.
While Ariza is likely to spend most of his time watching the Tar Heels play and taking in a football game in Chapel Hill, he might venture over to Duke to check out the Blue Devils the same weekend. Ariza's primary interest in schools right now lies with the Tar Heels, Blue Devils and Florida Gators. "He's been talking to North Carolina a lot," Dinos Trigonis, Ariza's AAU coach said.
Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Syracuse, UCLA, Southern Cal and Texas are the other schools that have his early interest.
Florida's Billy Donovan was in to see him already during the period and North Carolina assistant Doug Wojcik made the trip last week. Texas assistant Brian Cousins will be in California on Thursday to get in an evaluation.
Last year, Westchester was one of the top programs in the nation and expects to challenge for national supremacy this season. Last year as a starter, Ariza averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds. He was named all-tournament at the Big Time and made the underclassmen all-star game at ABCD.
