Press Conference Makes It Official

It's officially over. On Wednesday, Shavlik Randolph announced his intentions play college basketball next year in Durham. Here's some briefs from the press conference, along with some photos.

Randolph Is A Devil

As expected, Shavlik Randolph committed to Duke on Wednesday. In typical Randolph fashion, he was clad in a T-shirt and shorts and his comments to the few hundred people who gathered to hear the announcement were brief.

"I want to thank all the schools that recruited me but my decision came down to Duke," Randolph said.

In speaking to a pool of reporters, Randolph said he knew it was Duke after his official visit. "I had a really good visit and after my visit I didn't need to know anything else and I decided it was time. I knew that if I went there, I could be the best player I could be.

The diplomatic Randolph resisted the temptation to reveal who finished second, but his father, speaking prior to his son's comments, rattled off a list beginning with Kansas, moving onto Florida and then NC State, before getting to the Tar Heels and finally giving way to Shavlik to announce Duke was the choice.

"Duke was always one of the frontrunners," Shavlik told reporters. "Coach K knows how to talk to his players. He's honest with them. He doesn't tell you what you want to hear, he tells you what you need to hear. Duke was the best situation for me.
