Western Illinois Nabs Two

Derek Thomas' Western Illinois Leathernecks added a pair of players over the weekend. Two forwards made commitments on Sunday night.

After landing his top recruit last week, Derek Thomas continued to stock the cupboard at Western Illinois. In the wake of David Jackson's commitment, Thomas added two forwards.

Fred Oguns, a 6-7 standout from Sheridan (WY) Junior College, visited and committed over the weekend. Later on Sunday night, Pine Bluff (AR) High forward Navonta Kentle also picked Western Illinois.

"I just decided after I went to Western. I liked it there," Oguns said. "I just took one visit this fall semester. I liked it there and I didn't want to go to other schools."

Oguns is an interesting story. He's played some ball with the Nigerian National Team.

"I played on the junior national team at the world championships in Portugal in 1999. I was in the Nigerian National Team Camp [last summer] and we were ready to go play in the qualifiers but I couldn't get my visa. I had to decide if I wanted to stay here and sort everything out. They went with an 11-man squad and I was the only man that didn't go."

Oguns is expected to play a variety of positions at Western.

Kentle played last summer with the Arkansas Angels on the AAU circuit.
