Nelson, an athletic small forward, could wind up having a sizeable impact for the Cougars.
"I think he can have a huge impact," Raphael Chillious, South Kent's head coach, said. "He's a guy who brings his lunch pail everyday. A lot of times on the stat sheet you look at the points and not see it but you look at the rebounds and the assists and he's getting it done. He can play a couple of different positions."
The Cougars had been recruiting him hard since the beginning and St. Bonaventure (no offer) made a little run at him in the end, but Charleston had done a nice job on him start to finish.
"He's gotten bigger and stronger. I think he's gotten better because he's had an opportunity to play where he's going to play at the next level on the perimeter."
Nelson participated in AAU basketball with Anthony Lewis' Baltimore Cecil Kirk program.
