2005 Focus: Steffan Johnson

Steffan Johnson, a slender 2005 PG from Washington, is hearing from several schools in the west and likes two Pac-10 schools...

Steffan Johnson, 6-0 JR PG Kent (Wash.) Kent Meridian, is very slender and quick, with a nice stroke and good vision. He has a chance to be among the top PGs in the west.

We spoke with Johnson yesterday and asked about the schools that have been expressing interest in him so far.

"Stanford, Oregon, Texas Tech, Loyola Marymount and Washington," said Johnson. "Washington came to my school."

Johnson said he has two schools at the top of his list. "Stanford and Oregon have been showing the most interest," said Johnson.

We asked Johnson about the factors he'll consider when making his choice. "Good academics, the right coach, how I fit in with the program and then how I enjoy the campus and school," said Johnson. "I'd like to stay in the west or possibly in the south, where I have family."

Johnson said early playing time won't be a big consideration. "It's a factor," said Johnson. "But it's not that big of a deal."

Johnson doesn't expect to make a quick decision. "I'll take my time and go through everything with my family," said Johnson.

A very good student, Johnson told us that he has a 3.8 GPA and he's waiting on the results from his PSAT.
