Taggart Makes First Visit

Shawn Taggart, a power forward at Durham Mount Zion, is on the visit trail this week. A certain Conference USA program might be ahead of the learning curve on this one.

Shawn Taggart, a 6-10 power forward who appears to be just a cheeseburger over 200 pounds, is headed to DePaul this weekend for an official visit. Taggart plays his ball this season at Mount Zion after transferring to the school from George Wythe in Richmond.

Taggart is a young man with obvious size and potential. Like many of his high school brethren, he's in need of adding weight. "I'm trying to put on 30 pounds," Taggart said. "I put on 15 pounds. I don't get bumped around like I used to."

At a workout two weeks ago, Taggart looked like a young man who is about the turn the corner as a prospect. He was aggressive and seemed to play with confidence. Adding weight and strength could be the ingredients that make him a valued commodity on the recruiting trail.

DePaul could be ahead of the learning curve as they are the first school to bring Taggart in for an official visit. He leaves Friday for this weekend's trip.

"First, I just heard that they liked me. Then, I got a letter from them so I knew it was true. They started calling me and we set the visit up."

Is there a chance he commits on the visit? "Not really, I'm going on some more visits." Other interested schools include Cincinnati, Wisconsin and Georgia State.

We'll have more on Taggart throughout the season and we'll check back with him after his trip to Chicago.
