Rhode Island Lands Guard

Jim Baron has his first recruit of the year. The first-year coach traveled from one of the smallest states in the country to one of the largest in order to find himself a new point guard.

Bamfield Harmon To URI

Bamfield Harmon, a 5-10, 175 pound point guard from The Colony (TX) High, will play college basketball in the Atlantic 10 for Jim Baron's Rhode Island Rams.

Harmon visited URI last weekend and took little time in making the decision. "I liked all the coaches and the atmosphere as well as the player," Harmon said. He considered Drake, Samford, Rice and Colorado State. Drake was his only other official visit.

URI's connection with Harmon runs directly through assistant coach Dan Theiss. The former Lamar assistant saw Harmon during his time in Texas and brought him to Baron's attention.

Last year, Harmon averaged 17 points for The Colony. He's also a football player and broke his hand this season. Friday will be his first game back after the injury and he has no plans to play football at URI. "They want me to come in and have a great impact at the point guard position. I just feel like it's a great opportunity to play in a great conference. To be honest, I felt I was being under recruited."
