2003 Spotlight: Stefan Zimmerman Decides

A few months ago, you read on this site about a junior forward who had yet to play a game of varsity basketball. We told you that mattered little because he's a very good prospect. As it turns out, someone else agreed and Stefan Zimmerman made a commitment to a university on Tuesday.

Zimmerman Will Be A Ute

Another member of the Class of 2003 is off the market. Orem (UT) Mountain View junior power forward Stefan Zimmerman committed to Utah.

However, it's not like most commitments from young kids. This isn't a guy who has been exposed to a lot of AAU basketball or has a lot of traveling team experience. In fact, he's quite the opposite.

Zimmerman has never played a varsity basketball game. He didn't play varsity as a freshman and didn't play at all as a sophomore. He transferred to Mountain View last year and was ineligible to play due to Utah High School Activities Association rules.

He did play at 2001 Spiece Run ‘n Slam and he played well. He hit for over 30 in one game and displayed a terrific touch and looked every bit like a kid capable of playing at the highest collegiate level. He also played in the May Tournament of Champions.

Rick Majerus was wise in locking him up early.
