Herd Strikes At Hargrave

Marshall isn't messing around. The Thundering Herd now has three quality commitments from members of the Class of 2003. Greg White's recruiting haul is starting to look impressive.

Dixon, Strickland Join Patton

You just knew that when Marshall hired Kevin Keatts away from Hargrave Military Academy that there would be a connection between the college and prep school programs. Guess what? There is.

For starters, Marshall has Ronald Blackshear ready to roll this year at the fall break and forward David Anderson sitting out this season after transferring from Oklahoma State. What do they have in common? You guessed it, both are former Hargrave players.

On Thursday, Keatts used his Hargrave connections to strike again. The Herd accepted commitments from SF Robert Strickland and center Renardo Dixon, both students currently enrolled at Hargrave.

"He's one of the first guys to come here and he knows that the ones who come in first are the ones who get players out of here," Hargrave coach Mike Preston said of Keatts.

Strickland, a native of Virginia, is one of those do-it-all guys. He'll play the small forward role at Marshall. "I think he's been put in that role for a long time but he can do more than that," Preston said.

Dixon, a Texan, is the young man with all of the upside. He's athletic, bouncy and though he's a little light, college recruiters have been pleased with what they've seen in workouts and intrigued by his potential. He has a chance to be really good. "It's going to depend on him," Preston said. "He's got a good work ethic and the weights are going to be very important him. He's going to be good and look good. By the end of the year he's going to be really good."
