2005 Focus: Stephen Gilling

Stephen Gilling hasn't received a lot of hype, but the sharp-shooting guard from Chino Hills (Calif.) Ayala, is drawing plenty of interest from some very good programs...

Stephen Gilling, 6-1 JR SG Chino Hills (Calif.) Ayala, didn't play on a high-profile AAU team this past summer. As a result, he didn't get seen by many people outside of the west.

But the junior guard hasn't gone completely under the radar, as evidenced by the list of schools he told us have been expressing interest.

"UCLA, Texas Tech, Kansas, Colorado, Pepperdine, Utah, Oregon, Long Beach State, Wyoming and Northridge," said Gilling.

We asked if any schools stand out from the pack and Gilling replied, "Kansas, Texas Tech and UCLA are my three favorites."

When questioned about a dream school he might have had while growing up, Gilling said, "UCLA --they were my favorite school."

Gilling said playing time will be a factor in his decision. "I'd like to go someplace where I can get some time early," said Gilling. "I'd also like to stay close to home if possible. My parents would like me to stay close."

Gilling doesn't plan on making a quick decision. "I'll take some visits before I decide," said Gilling.

Gilling told us that he has a 3.0 GPA and scored 1020 on the SAT.
