Winchester Picks Tennessee
John Winchester, a 6-3 guard and native of Stamford, Conn., is headed to Tennessee.
"I want you to be the first to know: I committed to the University of Tennessee," Winchester said. "I was ready to get it over with and it was either West Virginia or Tennessee. I liked my visit at Tennessee better."
Just the day before, Winchester said that he was considering Texas, Florida, Tennessee and West Virginia. It must have been a good night of sleep for the young man because he woke up with a decision.
On Thursday, he called Tennessee to tell them the good news. "The whole room was just yelling."
Winchester, a future member of our Top 100, should be able to step in and give the Vols some points right from the beginning. "I'm going to play the two coming in and then form into a one."
He'll also bring a fine demeanor to the court where he has some natural leadership qualities. He's the type of player the other kids respect and they are drawn to him. People enjoy playing alongside him and that's an important quality.
UT's now has four commitments. Winchester joins point guard CJ Watson, center Boomer Herndon and small forward Justin Albrecht in the Vols 2002 recruiting class.
