War on the Shore: Day 2 News & Notes

Alan Metcalfe and Jerome Johnson may not have fared well in the second day of action, but they are still in demand. Check out info on them and more news & notes after Day 2 at the War on the Shore.

For a guy who played in just three minutes the first game and hobbled through 21 minutes on Saturday, Alan Metcalfe is getting plenty of looks. The 6-9, 230-pound Liverpool, England native re-injured his left ankle on Friday night, but toughed it out and finished with four points and three boards in Notre Dame Academy's win on Saturday.

Metcalfe, 18, has only played basketball for the past five years and arrived in the U.S. on Sept. 1.

``He's highly skilled, can shoot it and is a good rebounder," Notre Dame coach Larry Cullinane said. "He's got good toughness to drag that leg around. A lot of people will be keeping their eye on him."

Utah, Clemson and N.C. State have already inquired, but Metcalfe said he has no clue about American colleges just yet. But that will begin to change now that he scored an 1100 on the SAT and he starts to get serious on gathering information on colleges.

``I'm getting letters, but I'm not really paying much attention to them," he said. "Until I get phone calls." ________ IMG (Fla.) 6-8, 225-pound senior power forward Jerome Johnson only finished with six points and five boards in a loss to Bridgton Academy, but he's still a wanted man.

Johnson, who has added about 15 pounds since arriving in Florida a couple months ago, has already visited Nebraska – and also lists DePaul, Illinois and Florida State.

``We'd like him to be more aggressive inside," IMG coach Tony Tucker said. "Then he can be able to create more stuff by putting the ball on the floor. He's going through some growing pains. Sometimes he forgets his inside game."
