Tiki Mayben Makes Choice

Tiki Mayben made it official later this afternoon and here's the scoop on where he'll play his college ball.

Troy High (N.Y.) 6-3, 170-pound junior point guard Emanuel Mayben committed to Syracuse at a news conference this afternoon.

Mayben also considered Georgia Tech and Louisville, but picked the Orangemen - who have been the clear leader since his freshman year - because of head coach Jim Boeheim, signee Dayshawn Wright (an AAU teammate with the Albany City Rocks) and proximity.

``He fell in love with the place back when he visited it as a freshman," Albany City Rocks head man Jim Hart said. "He loves Jim Boeheim and has a lot of respect for him from when he's been coaching Carmelo Anthony and Gerry McNamara."

Mayben is a flashy floor leader who also has a knack for knocking down big shots at the end of a game. He averaged 18 points, 11 boards and 5 assists last season and will play in his season-opener Friday night - just hours after making an official announcement at the South Troy Boys Club.

``He's an emotional guy on the court, but is such a good kid," Hart added. "He volunteered to deliver turkeys for three hours early in the morning on Thanksgiving."

The commitment is important for Boeheim & Co. because it will give them a future backcourt of Utica Proctor (N.Y.) guard Josh Wright and Mayben.
