Justin Hawkins, 6-6 JR SG, Lakewood (Calif.) Mayfair, is a junior that many college coaching staffs are betting on to blow up this year and next summer. In fact, many college coaches spent some time during the fall evaluation period at Mayfair High School to check out Hawkins.
Hawkins is a long-armed athlete with a pretty outside jumper and good quickness for his size.
Coaches from Arizona, USC, UCLA, New Mexico, Loyola Marymount and San Diego visited Mayfair this fall. Hawkins has also received early interest from Oregon, Nebraska, Colorado and Stanford.
In fact, Hawkins unofficially visited Stanford early this month, on the weekend of October 13th, and enjoyed the visit. He is fairly good friends with Mayfair alumnus and current Stanford Cardinal, Josh Childress.
To date, Colorado State has offered Hawkins and has pushed for an early commitment. Arizona, though, has expressed quite a bit of interest in Hawkins. His top five early favorites would be Arizona, Stanford, New Mexico, Oregon and Colorado.
Hawkins has indicated he'd commit early if the situation were right.
Hawkins has a 3.3 GPA. He took the SAT once and passed it, by NCAA standards. He has continued to study and will take the SAT again in November, hoping to improve his score.
