Kane To Minnesota
On Tuesday, Dyke (VA) Blue Ridge Academy power forward Aliou Kane committed to Minnesota over SMU.
"He got it done earlier in the day," Travis Edwards, Kane's AAU coach and legal guardian said. "He's going to be a Golden Gopher."
Kane played a significant role for Team Texas, which won both the Super Showcase and Nike Peach Jam. As the only true post player Team Texas had in its arsenal, Kane delivered. He was a defensive presence and bonafide rebounder. He ranks as the No. 81 prospect in our post-summer evaluations.
"It came down to Minnesota and SMU," Edwards said. "He visited both and weighed out the pros and cons and felt more comfortable at the University of Minnesota. SMU did a great job and I hate to see someone be disappointed."
Kane has a cousin who lives close to the Minnesota campus and that certainly didn't hurt the Gophers in their pursuit. He's the second player to commit to Dan Monson's program, joining combo forward Stanley Gaines who committed earlier in the month.
