2005 Focus: Stephen Gilling

Stephen Gilling, a 6-1 junior shooting guard from Chino (Calif.) Ayala, says he's hearing a lot from a couple schools in the Big West and Mountain West...

Stephen Gilling, 6-1 JR SG Chino (Calif.) Ayala, is one of the better unknown guards in the west. A very good shooter, Gilling also has a nice feel for the game.

We spoke with Gilling last night and asked him which schools have been out to see him play recently.

"Colorado State and Long Beach State," said Gilling. "They've been showing the most interest."

Gilling said Texas Tech has also been sending a lot of mail and the Aggies are a school that he's also very interested in at this time.

While Long Beach State is fairly close to the home, the other two schools are not. We asked Gilling if distance is an issue for him. "No -- I don't have any problem with going away," replied Gilling.

Gilling said he might make a fairly early decision. "I think I could decide by the end of my junior year," Gilling said.

So far this season, Gilling is averaging eleven points, five assists and six rebounds a game.

A solid student, Gilling told us that his GPA is around 3.0 and he scored 1020 on the SAT.
