Thompson Reaches Decision

Michael Thompson, a sophomore transfer and Windy City native, is returning to his roots. The big man, after making some visits, has opted make a commitment.

Former McDonald's All-American and Duke center Michael Thompson, committed to Northwestern Sunday night.

The 6-10 Thompson will have one and a half seasons of eligibility remaining and should be eligible at the semester break next year.

"I was just comfortable there," Thompson said. "I know how bad they wanted me and that was important. It's close to home and it's a great school. There's no [academic] slippage going there from Duke."

Thompson made official visits to Texas (no scholarship currently available), Iowa State and with the Huskies. He initially looked at Notre Dame but did not visit the campus as previously reported.

For Thompson, Northwestern brings a world of opportunities in terms of playing time. "I'll probably get back into playing next December. I think I'll have complete freedom. I can go inside and outside so I feel good about that. I'm ready to get everybody around here excited again. I wanted to play in a good conference and that being close to home made it even better."
