West Virginia Lands Young
Last weekend, National Christian Academy PF/C Jabbar Young visited Tulane. He considered the Green Wave, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and Miami. However, he's reached a decision.
"Actually, tonight he verbally committed to West Virginia," National Christian coach Trevor Brown said.
"We just looked at all the programs that were recruiting him. I wanted him to go to a situation where he can step in and get minutes and he could develop slowly."
Development has been a big part of the reason why Young is now a Big East recruit. Last year, Young arrived at NCA at close to 300 pounds. He's responded to Brown's tutelage and transformed himself into a player who will eventually fit into West Virginia's rotation.
"He's probably done a 180-degree turnaround from where he was," Brown said. "When he got here he was almost 300 pounds and now he's down to 265. He's got a variety of post moves now. He's lost all that weight and it's given him a little more athletic ability. When he came here he had no offers on the table and now he has 10."
Brown worked Young hard, just like he did with Rob Little, now a Stanford center. Young, originally from Louisiana, wasn't a high-major recruit when he stepped onto NCA's campus and now he's set to be part of a Big East program. He's improved his skills from a raw big man to where he is now.
