"The bottom line is that they feel like Louis [Williams] and Mike are the key to their whole program getting off in the right direction," South Gwinnett head coach Roger Fleetwood said. "They feel like getting them would be the cornerstone to what they're doing."
Mercer has really raised his level of play to the point where he's got to be considered among the best point men in the country. He's averaging 18 points a game this season and is a legit 6-4.
"He's come on like we anticipated he would," Fleetwood said. "I really felt that when I first saw him play he would be as good as Louis or anybody else. He was home schooled as an 8th grader and at a private school as a 9th grader. He's just now getting comfortable at a school with 2,220 kids."
Mike Mercer and Louis Williams. Louis Willliams and Mike Mercer. It's a duo that has been together on the high school and AAU circuit for a long time. Mercer's commitment should really help in their push for Williams. One person thinks so.
"I think it helps them greatly," Fleetwood said of Georgia's chances with Williams. "I think so. I really do."
No matter what happens with Williams, Felton and Co. now own a solid commitment from one of the elite PGs in the Class of 2005 and that's big time.
