Thomas Gardner, 6-2 JR SG Portland (Ore.) Jefferson, is an outstanding scorer and athlete who will be among the most highly recruited players in the class of 2003. We spoke with him last night about his recruitment.

We asked Gardner who had been by to watch him play and he said, "Arizona, Kansas and Oregon St. have come by my morning workouts. Roy Williams and Rodney Tention were the coaches that came from Kansas and Arizona."

Does he have an early list? "North Carolina, Michigan St., Cincinnati, Kansas, Arizona and UConn are on the list right now," Gardner said.

What factors will he consider when making  a decision? "The style of play, up-tempo, the chance to play as a freshman and the opportunity to play for a championship will all be things I'll consider," Gardner replied.

As for the timing of his decision, Gardner said, "I'll sign early, but I want to take my visits, so I won't be committing real early. Not before the summer."

Gardner told us that he's doing fine academically and won't have trouble qualifying.
