Siena Lands Scoring Guard

Rob Lanier (right) and Siena has itself a scorer. Artavius Fisher, a senior out of Kingston High in New York enlisted with the program this week.

Last July, Artavius Fisher was one of the top scorers at the Nike Peach Jam. This week, the 5-11 shooting guard from Kingston (NY) High decided to take his scoring acumen to Siena.

"They were involved in the summer but weren't pushing that hard," head coach Ron Kelder said. "They really turned it up in the last month."

And why not?

In 11 games so far this year, Fisher has connected on 46 3-point shots. He's scored 30 or more points in 6 consecutive games. He's shooting 85% from the free throw line.

"He's seen all kinds of defenses too," Kelder said. "He's known around here for being a kid who can put the ball in the basket." Fisher is scoring at a 31-point clip thus far.

Hartford, Evansville, Canisius, St. Bonaventure, James Madison, Manhattan and Iona had each shown recruiting interest in him but Siena was a spot he had his eye on early.

"His heart was with Siena."
