Oak Hill Academy head coach Steve Smith also confirmed that his star guard would have an announcement on Monday and that the Wildcats were going to land arguably the nation's highest-rising guard.
Rondo visited Illinois unofficially a few weeks ago. Louisville was also in the mix and came on strong as of late. Kentucky sent Tubby Smith to watch a practice last week and the ‘Cats pounced on Rondo hard after his visit to Champaign.
Committing to Kentucky comes as no surprise. Speculation all along had been that he would never stray too far from his Louisville-area roots.
"He wants to be, you know, somewhere close where I'll be able to see him play as much as possible. It's a real close knit family," Amber Rondo said.
The Wildcats backcourt will receive a major overhaul next year. Former Western Kentucky standout Patrick Sparks enters the mix after sitting out a year. So will IMG guard Ramel Bradley. Mix in a heavy dose of Rondo and Tubby Smith has some nice backcourt pieces to work with.
