The National Prep Invitational began on Friday despite the weather. We'll head to the Prime Time Shootout on Saturday before returning to Rhode Island on Sunday for the final day of Mike Procopio's tournament.
Marvin Kilgore, G, Philadelphia Lutheran: The 6-2, 185-pound senior did almost all of his damage getting to the basket. Has a nice hesitation move and a quick first step. Finished with 17 points. Just needs to continue to work on knocking down the perimeter shot.
C.J. Anderson, WG, Laurinburg: The 6-5 guard out of Cincinnati, Ohio, is a jack-of-all-trades, but master of none. He did knock down one trifecta, but he'll still need to work on his perimeter game. Finished with 14 points in a win over Philadelphia Lutheran.
Longar Longar, Laurinburg: Getting better almost every time out. Does most of his damage around the bucket, runs the court well and alters just about everything on the defensive end. Nice get for Kelvin Sampson and Oklahoma.
Jerome Johnson, BF, IMG: One of the top unsigned guys left in the senior class. Has improved dramatically from his days at Bullis School (Md.). Scored 16 points and grabbed 8 boards. Nice baseline moves and also putting the ball on the floor much better than in the past.
Dorell Wright, WF, South Kent: Wasn't even knocking down his three-point shots, but still managed to finish with a "quiet" 32 in a victory against Laurinburg. A ridiculous athlete who got most of his points around the basket and in transition.
Vernon Goodridge, BF-C, Philadelphia Lutheran: Wasn't quite as active as we've seen him in the past and his offensive game was basically non-existent. However, he suffered a sprained thumb early in the game which limited his effectiveness. Good shot-blocker and rebounds who still needs to put on weight and work on his low-post game.
Marcus Green, F, Philadelphia Lutheran: Blue-collar 6-7, 215-pound junior from Philly had 34 in a tight loss to IMG's split-squad. Did just about everything – battled inside, knocked down mid-range jumpers and worked hard on the boards. Mid-major kid if he gets academics in order.
