Junior to Watch: Khalif Ford

One of the best junior point guards in the west, Khalif Ford has had some college coaches pay his high school a visit this fall...

Khalif Ford, 6-0 JR PG Diamond Bar (Calif.) High, is a terrific prospect who ranks among the best at his position in the west. Quick and strong, Ford has a very nice outside shot and he can also break down defenders off the dribble.

We spoke with Khalif recently about his recruitment. While he's receiving mail from just about every major program in the country, the schools that have come out to see him in the past month include Utah, Nebraska, USC, UCLA and UNLV.

We asked if he had started to form a list of possibilities and Khalif said, "No, I'm open to everyone right now." Khalif did say that North Carolina was his dream school growing up, mainly because of Michael Jordan.

When asked about the factors that would be important in his decision, Khalif replied, "playing time, the surrounding area (not some place real quiet, maybe a big city), and the coaching staff obviously. I want a teaching coach."

We asked about the importance of winning and Khalif said, "I want to win, but I also want to be at a place where I can contribute."

Khalif said that he's been thinking recently about making an early commitment and believes that he may decide prior to the ABCD camp in July. We asked if he had taken any unofficial trips yet and Khalif said "just a little trip to USC during our team camp."

Khalif told us that he has a 3.1 GPA and just took the SAT last weekend.
