Matt Shaw, 6-7 SO C Los Angeles (Calif.) Verbum Dei, has a big body with soft hands and pretty good feet. He's fairly effective inside of ten feet with his back to the basket, where he can use his bulk to to post up smaller players. With continued development, he has a chance to be recruited at the high major level.

We spoke with Shaw yesterday and asked him about the schools he's hearing from so far.

"I'm getting mail from a lot of different schools," said Shaw. "Some of the ones I'm interested in are Florida, Miami, Michigan, UCLA and USC. Michigan is probably showing the most interest right now."

Shaw told us an ACC school was his favorite when he was younger. "I liked North Carolina -- mainly because of Michael Jordan," said Shaw.

Shaw went on to discuss some issues he'll consider when making his choice.

"It won't just be about basketball," Shaw said. "Academics will be important. I want to play right away and get some experience, if possible. I don't really care about location -- I'll go anywhere."

Shaw doesn't anticipate a quick decision. "I hope I can visit some places and see what I like," Shaw said.

Shaw said he's averaging about 20 points and 10 rebounds a game this season. He told us he has a 3.2 GPA.
