Hinnant To The Big East

Louis Hinnant is one of success stories that come from playing fall AAU basketball. A terrific performance at the Charlie Weber event has led to a scholarship offer and his acceptance from a Big East school.

Eagles Landed Hinnant

Louis Hinnant, a 6-3 guard from Brandywine (MD) Gwynn Park is headed to Boston College.

"A lot of people were recruiting him early on and not a lot of majors," Steve Matthews, Gwynn Park head coach, said. "At that time, he decided he was going to sign late and then Boston College and Miami came in."

After visiting BC, Hinnant decided it was the right place for him. "He loved the coaching staff and got along with all the players."

At the Weber, while playing for PG Select, he helped his team to an upset win over Boo Williams and was terrific in doing so. Athletic and smart, he can score while taking care of the basketball.

"[Exposure] was the key because the coaches weren't there and you guys wrote it up and coaches put a lot of trust in that," Matthews said.

Last year, Hinnant was a second-team all-county selection and averaged 17 points and 4.5 assists. Matthews will expect more from his point guard this year. "For our team, he's our best player and his leadership and decision-making are going to be the best thing. He's a natural point guard but he's going to have to do a lot of scoring. For us to be successful, he's going to have to be successful."
