Elon Adds A Pair of Recruits

The Elon Phoenix added a pair of prospects this week. Coach Ernie Nestor's team landed a guard and a forward that should help as they continue to transition into the Southern Conference.

Brian Waters, a 6-2, 185 pound point guard out of Alamance Christian in Graham, N.C., committed to Elon this week. So did 6-6 juco small forward Levonn Jordan of Brunswick Community College.

Waters is an interesting story. He began his high school career at River Mill in N.C. before transferring as a junior to Heritage Christian in Texas.

"I went down to Heritage Christian Academy in Texas last year. I loved it down there but then Coach Jerome Tang got an assistant job at Baylor. I didn't want to have any other coach beside him so I moved back home and ended up at Alamance Christian School."

At Alamance, Waters helped get a program started. He was cast in a new role and went from scorer to leader and the transition worked well for him. "I wanted to be a leader. The basketball went from not that good to making it to the state championship game this year. We lost in the state title game."

The former Five-Star camper averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds and the same number of assists. Waters' relationship with Elon began through Wake Forest guard Chris Paul who helped Waters get to know assistant Tim Fuller.

Waters had offers from UNC-Greensboro, Campbell, Radford, Winthrop and Charleston Southern.

"I hope I can come in and make a big impact as far as getting them to the tournament."
