Verdejo Narrowing His Focus

Patience is the buzz word with Jesus Verdejo. The Winchendon swingman has a trio of schools that hold an edge and is close to beginning the visitation process.

Jesus Verdejo, a 6-4 shooting guard out of Winchendon Prep via Miami Christian, is starting to crank up his recruitment. However, he'll be in no particular hurry to end the process.

"There are about 16 schools that have called and want a visit," Miami Tropics AAU coach Art Alvarez said. "We'll narrow it down to five and he'll take all those visits. Maybe he'll take three visits and kind of just wait it out."

Alvarez said that Verdejo will be patient as the job status of some coaches shakes out.

While there's no rush to decide a few schools have made some advances. "He'll definitely visit Arizona. Kansas State and Florida, those are the three front runners right now. We could have a fourth and a fifth as well. Temple and [John] Chaney want him real bad. That could be an opportunity." The Owls signed Verdejo last year but he didn't qualify.

The Baylor Bears were heading to Miami to see him on Monday and North Carolina State placed a call Sunday night.

"Jesus had a phenomenal season at Winchendon. Now that he's qualified they are jumping on the bandwagon."
