That's because Wig Pearson's frontline will feature a pair of high-major players – 6-8 ½, 250-pound Athens High junior power forward Richard Hendrix and Wilcox Central's 6-9, 215-pound junior big man Yamene Coleman.
``Richard just shows so much leadership that you gotta love him," Pearson said. "He makes you be able to coach other kids because he's so good and so coachable."
But it'll be the guards that will be the keys to determine how well the Lasers play.
``Richard's unguardable 1-on-1," Pearson said. "and we're going to have good shooters and if they try and double Richard, we'll be able to knock down the outside shots. We have really good young guards."
Junior point guard Tyler Holloway, who had a solid year at Austin High, will run the show and Anniston's Xavier Gibson, a 6-5 junior, is likely to start at the two. Round out the starting lineup is 6-5 wing Xavier Keeling, a sophomore at J.O. Johnson High.
``We may not be quite as talented individually as we were last year, but as long as we work hard we'll do well," Hendrix said. "Tyler is a really good floor leader who just hasn't had a lot of high-level AAU experience. We're hoping he'll hold his own and be our court leader."
The wild-card of the group just might be Dallas County's 6-7 ½, 235-pound junior forward Mike Johnson, a muscular kid who is relentless on the boards and can also knock down the mid-range jumper.
``He's really athletic and not too many people have heard of him," Hendrix said. "But I think he's going to be a big surprise this summer."
