2005 Focus: Tyler Newbold

Tyler Newbold, a 6-4 junior shooting guard from Payson, Utah, is another solid prospect in the Utah class of 2005...

We only saw him briefly last summer, but we liked what we saw from Tyler Newbold, 6-4 JR SG Payson (Utah) High. Newbold showed a nice jump shot and some good hops. We heard he had a very good high school season this year and we're looking forward to seeing him in April.

We spoke with Newbold recently and he gave us a list of schools that have been expressing interest in him.

"Utah, Utah State, BYU, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State, Wyoming, Rice and Penn State," said Newbold.

When questioned about which programs were the strongest with him right now, Newbold replied, "New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and Colorado."

We asked him which school was showing the most interest out of the group. "New Mexico," Newbold said.

Newbold has a couple issues at the top of his list when considering a school.

"I want to go to a place where I feel they want me badly, where I feel needed," said Newbold. "I'd like to play early, but that's not a real big deal."

We asked if he had any preference in terms of location. "No, I'm open to leaving," said Newbold.

Newbold told us he has a 3.8 GPA and scored 22 on the ACT. He said he'll take the test again in April.
