Richmond Has Father-Son Combo
Patrick Beilein considered Rider, Niagara, Canisius and Campbell. But, the lure of playing for his father was way too strong in the end. Patrick's father John is the head coach at Richmond and that's where son is headed to college.
"Richmond was my first choice," Beilein said. "I just had to become eligible first. I've never played basketball for him. I'm looking forward to it. I know he's a great teacher of the game." Beilein said he and his father rarely talked about his choice. "We really didn't talk much about it. I would just ask him now and then if he was still recruiting me."
Patrick said other college coaches would often call and his father would answer the phone, telling them that his son was open to being recruited. Not anymore.
Last year, Beilein averaged 17 points a game. He's the second father-son combo we've uncovered this year. Jordan Kent, Ernie Kent's son, will play for his dad at Oregon.
