Junior Profile: Aaron Brooks

Aaron Brooks, a junior from Washington, is among a handful of elite point guards in the west. We spoke with him yesterday about the schools he's hearing from and his thoughts on the recruiting process...

Aaron Brooks, 5-11 JR PG Seattle (Wash.) Franklin, is a very quick and talented player. He's got a nice outside shot, he can break you down off the dribble and he's also a very good defender. Among the best at his position in the west, he's hearing from schools all over the country.

We spoke with Aaron yesterday and he told us that Oregon St., Nevada, Washington, Utah and Florida have all been out recently to watch him work out. In addition to those schools, Aaron lists Kansas, Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky as schools that he's interested in.

Aaron said that North Carolina was his childhood favorite. "Mainly because of Michael Jordan," Aaron said.

We noted that Aaron has an unusual number of southern schools on his list and he said, "I have a lot of family in the south. I'll probably either stay close to home or go to the south. If I went to the south, then my Mom would probably move there."

Aaron said that, in addition to location, his relationship with the coaches and the opportunity to win would be major factors in his decision. We asked about early playing time and Aaron replied, "Early playing time isn't that important. I want to play, but it's important that we have a chance to win."

Aaron told us that he plans on committing in November of next year. "I want to see some places before I make a decision," Aaron said. "But I want to get it done fairly early."

Aaron said that he has a 3.4 GPA and hasn't yet taken the SAT.
